Norsok Requirements

Operators in the Norwegian sector of the North West Continental Shelf of Europe generally accept equipment and cable entry devices (including cable glands) that are ATEX certified to the relevant IEC or EN standards. However, there are specific installation requirements in Norway that can be taken to be unique to the market. Whereas some of the core principles of the IEC 60079-14 installation standard may be incorporated into the national regulations, a set of NORSOK standards has also been developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry. This is to ensure adequate safety and to fill the broad needs of the industry, whilst achieving value adding, cost effective results.
