Typical IEC / NORSOK Selection Comparisons

The illustrations shown on the cable entries Type 'd' & cable entries Type 'e' highlight the main differences when it comes to selecting cable glands for IEC and NORSOK installations. The combinations of enclosure and cable gland types featured in these illustrations apply when either braided or unarmoured cables are used. It is assumed that for installations complying with Norsok requirements that cables are in accordance with NEK TS 606 and installations comply with IEC 60092 / IEC 61892 and that for other IEC installations the cable complies with 9.3.2(a) of IEC 60079-14:2013. The illustrations also assume that for Flameproof type ‘d’ (Ex d) enclosures the installed cable is at least 3 metres long and the cable gland itself is not approved as part of the equipment.

Supporting and Security of Cables

The content of clauses 9.9.1 & 9.9.2 explains the technique to be adopted for preparation and termination of cables. Please note that this information is not meant to reflect the NORSOK standards in their entirety, but only to demonstrate the cable sealing and termination of wire braid in the cables. Users are required to digest and fully understand the NORSOK standards and should not use the context of the partial information provided as the basis of their decision making.
