CMP Products leads the way in compliance with technical standards, and with a dedicated certification team, we design, manufacture and supply products that are compliant with all of the latest standards for IEC, NEC and CEC based installations.

In order to ensure that the TruSeal cable gland range is ‘fit for purpose’, CMP Products ensures that the full range is tested and often certified to the most onerous cable gland market standards. In this case that is IEC or EN 62444 (formerly EN 50262).

CMP Products remains in constant touch with the changes in development of national and international technical standards, and consequently is able to offer product solutions that are certified for multiple global applications.

Certification to IEC / EN 60079
The TruSeal range has been certified in accordance with IEC / EN 60079 parts 0 (general requirements), 7 (Ex e increased safety) and 31 (Ex t dust ignition). The means that this product range is safe, and certified to use in Explosive Atmospheres with Ex ‘e’ equipment and will maintain the integrity of the installation. Below shows the minimum requirements that a product needs to meet to be safely used for an Ex ‘e’ application.

CMP favours the displacement seal method, where the seal is gradually compressed under pressure from the nylon fingers, and softly displaces along the length of the cable until it makes an effective seal. This method offers superior control of the pressure applied by the sealing ring to the cable.

TruSeal products are available with three different circular seals (as well as additional options for
non-round cables) to suit the customers’ needs, these seals boast the widest cable sealing range on the market for an equivalent cable gland. Having such a wide sealing range means that the customer would be able to buy fewer different sizes of cable gland for a particular project, reducing overall cost. An additional benefit of a wide sealing range is that often, for a specified cable, CMP will be able to offer a smaller cable gland than their competitors.

TruSeal cable glands can be supplied with standard or long metric threads as well as NPT. Long threads are often vital in an installation because of the enclosure wall thickness or because of the build-up of accessories.

All NPT threads meet NPT thread specification ANSI / ASME B1.20.1 and are available with specifically designed entry thread sealing washers for use with non-threaded entries.

All products within the TruSeal range are tested to IP66, 67, 68 and 69K; the details of the testing and the level of protection provided is shown in the tables opposite. To ensure that these ratings are achieved, CMP products provides ‘O’ ring face seals for metallic products and entry thread polymer seals for the plastic glands as standard. These ensure that no matter what the product thread, enclosure material or surface finish, the required environmental protection will be achieved.

We use only the best quality materials to suit the arduous conditions that our products often face. For the TruSeal range this includes Polyamide or nickel plated brass for the cable gland and silicone for the seals.

Locknuts
CMP polyamide and nickel plated brass locknuts have been specifically designed for the TruSeal range to secure your cable gland into non-threaded enclosures. Cable glands can be bought with or without locknuts depending on your specific needs and are available with metric or NPT threads.

Entry Thread Seals
To maintain the Ingress Protection rating between the equipment and the cable gland, it may be necessary to fit an entry thread sealing washer at the equipment-to-gland entry interface.
The need for a sealing washer will depend on the ingress protection rating, code of protection of the equipment and the type of entry holes available within that equipment. For example, when using Ex e equipment or terminal enclosures (which are permitted to have untapped through-clearance holes) it will be necessary to fit a sealing washer to ensure the minimum IP54 requirement is met. Other equipment with tapped entry holes may not require a sealing washer to maintain the IP54 minimum rating.

CMP recommends using entry thread sealing washers for all installations where an IP rating of IP66-69K is required; these are provided with all polymer TruSeal cable glands.

0 Ring Interface Seals
For the TruSeal metallic range an ‘O’ ring interface seal is provided as standard negating the need for an entry thread sealing washer. ‘O’ rings are rated IP66-69K.

The earthing of both the electrical systems, and the metallic structures with which that they may come into contact is vital to safety. When using braid armoured cables, any metallic parts of the cable should be earthed, this is often achieved by the armour termination. In situations when the cable armour itself is not terminated, a ‘continuity washer’ can be used to maintain a strong earth. These earthing components must therefore be able to meet the minimum short circuit fault current of the associated cable.
